Weekly Uplook - July 23

Good afternoon dear saints,
Some of our young people and adult helpers are anxiously awaiting the start of Youth Camp which begins next Monday. Lori and I are anxiously awaiting our departure to the camp meeting to be held in South Korea the following week. Others are anxiously awaiting their departure on vacation or some other exciting summer activity. Some of these activities have been several years in waiting due to the pandemic but are now being carefully and prayerfully pursued. It seems we are all looking forward to something so I began considering what types of things the Bible suggests that we look for.
Jesus reminded us to be careful about “looking back” after we have started in His kingdom. (Luke 9:62) He also challenged us to “look up” because our redemption is getting near. He also told us to “look on the fields” speaking of the spiritual harvest of souls. (John 4:35) Paul reminded the Corinthian church that we “look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen” noting that visible things are temporary while those which are invisible and spiritual in nature are also eternal. (2 Cor 4:18) Paul told the young pastor Titus that as believers we are “looking for” the blessed hope of Jesus soon return. (Titus 2:13) The writer of Hebrews reminds us we are “looking for a city” which has foundations and is built by God. Also that we are “looking to Jesus” who is the originator and completer (author/finisher) of our faith because of what he did on the cross for us. Peter also reminded believers to be “looking for” the coming of the Lord and new heavens and earth. (2 Peter 3:12-14)
So…it is great to look forward anxiously to camp, or travel, or a vacation…or maybe even to a favorite meal, but these days may we never loose sight of the eternal to which God has called us and may our eyes be fixed upon His soon return.
Please be praying for the safety and spiritual encouragement of all the young people who will be at youth camp this year.
Blessings,
BB
